FUNDRAISING: American Brain Tumor Association
Founded in 1973 by the mothers of two children who died from brain
tumors, we serve individuals globally and award funds for research throughout the United States and Canada. In 2008, we will
commemorate our 35th Anniversary Year by awarding $2.5 million for brain tumor research. With continued research for effective
therapies and, ultimately, a cure, many more children and adults will win their battles with brain tumors. Over 190,000
individuals are diagnosed with a brain tumor each year in the United States, including 3,000 children. Brain tumors are the
leading cause of cancer death due to solid tumors in children under the age of 20. Brain tumors do not discriminate
- anyone can be affected. People of all ages, races, gender, socio-economic status, urban or rural dweller, students, white
or blue collar workers, athletes, CEO''s, celebrities - anyone can be diagnosed with a brain tumor. A brain tumor is uniquely
terrifying to the patient and family because it strikes at the very essence of an individual - emotions, intellect, and personality
- in addition to the many physical problems it causes.
